Atelier McClane, Black Books, Daily Life

Exposition / Publication

From October 20 to December 29, Lendroit éditions opens its doors to the pair of artists Atelier McClane for the exhibition Black Books, Daily Life and publishes the edition of the same name on this occasion.

Atelier McClane was born in 2013 – it was very clear to them - from the meeting between two universes and drawing styles : those of Julia Crinon and Hugo Marchal. The four-handed drawing is therefore, from the very beggining, characteristic of the identity of the collective. Since then, the McClanes have explored, always together, other mediums such as screen printing, self-publishing, installation, creation of posters *, etc. Through that is also the discovery of other distribution systems, of alternative scenes which have opened up new avenues for the collective, both plastic and thematic.

The recent images proposed by the collective appear as the reflections of mirrors handedto the contemporary world. Work, the place of the individual in an extremely standardized society or even systems of domination are all notions through which the McClanes take a position - without the tone ever being peremptory, the symbolic images always offering several reading degrees. In their work, it is reflected by a radical use of black and white, by the precision of the line of the drawing that counterbalances the gestures of the painting or by the association of various referents through collage.

With Atelier McClane, the exhibition is the image of a practice never frozen, that always seems to be on a self-research journey. Whether it occurs as the outcome of a creative process linked to a specific theme, the report of a trip or a collective experience, it appears as a pretext to deploy and juxtapose without hierarchy their protean production within invested spaces. Thus Black Books, Daily Life, exhibition taking possession of Lendroit éditions. "Black Books" is a double reference to the readings that inspire them and to the privileged space for their visual experiments. Within furniture designed for the exhibition from recycled materials, corresponding to the DIY spirit that has permeated their practice from the start, a selection of their editions is made available to the public. As a backdrop, the artist duo takes over the wall of the exhibition space. The set illustrates the notion of "Daily Life", a unique universe reminiscent of the McClane workshop, both a living space and an open workspace - a way of life becoming positioning.

On the occasion of the exhibition, the publication of Black Book, Daily Life is edited.

Since June, Atelier McClane has been making concert posters of Dj Burzum@Ikeawho is invited to play on the evening of the opening.

About Dj Burzum@Ikea:

A friend of a frend initially sees Varg Vikernes. We're in the Ikea parking lot in Clermont-Ferrand with a big box of cinnamon pastries for him and his family. This is where he becomes DJ Burzum@Ikea. Flash. Pure passion that stretches between fond of tasteful music and disgust for ferric muses. Scorching Dub / Cold Black Metal / Giallo Soundtrack ... DJ Burzum turns blondes/lagers and turntables in the haze and 25% heads like a beer full of hydrocarbon. Without a crest, he skips the rooster and the ass with dexterity. His innate gift of inconsistency catches our ears like a robot diver mixes soup. You walk out of the Ikea parking lot with that, forgetting where are the cakes.
